The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
