Viral video clips seemed to capture Jones flashing his middle finger toward opposing supporters, though he insists he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Dallas supporters in attendance as his team secured a 37-22 victory.
“It was unfortunate. It was kind of an interaction with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “Present was a large group of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was brimming with excitement for the Dallas team.”
He further clarified that the signal was entirely unintentional, happening amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I just showed the wrong finger,” he remarked. “It was inadvertently done. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got resolved rapidly.”
